Website redesign

I think, I will start this note saying that I don’t have such a rich imagination. I always looked for a design, that would be simple and elegant. However, just black text on a white background looked pretty boring. Of course, Eurostile Round font looks nice, but something is missing. “Borders and gradients” I thought to myself… And that’s how was borned this design:

Screenshot of old design And for some time i was even satisfied with this design. But over time, I began to feel like it was too much.

I didn’t payed much attention to my site, since I’m not trying to promote my services of any kind. Basically, I was either busy with my projects, or busy with my studies at university, or something else. However, I’ve got a free minute to think about it and implement that “ideal” design that has been sitting in my head for a long time.

First, i decided to get rid of all unnecessary elements, removed gradients and borders. I decided to leave only black and white, just like Yin and Yang. I went with the idea with stripes, with them I try to emphasize important elements or related elements in one group, reflecting, for example, a note within a list of these notes.

The layout has also been changed. Everything important was concentrated on the upper half of the screen. The important thing I considered was my nickname, short information about myself and links to my profiles on social media and messengers. Everything that a one-page website basically requires.

But my website was a bit more, then just one-page website. This is my way of expressing myself. That’s why a little below the important stuff there are sections with my projects and notes. Even lower — more detailed information about myself. Yes, I placed it at the very bottom on purpose, so that a potential visitor would have to scroll the mouse wheel down or swipe up on the screen. I think he has to make at least some effort if he wants to learn more about me (although he still won’t learn much from there).

In the end, I came to this:

Скриншот нового дизайна сайтаI think this design looks much more attractive than the previous one due to the lack of unnecessary elements. Yeah, there’s a thing with underline for the h1 tag in Gecko-based browsers, where that underline won’t look as pretty, but still. I guess I’ll still be looking for ways to improve it.

Okay, why did I bother with the redesign at all?

Besides the fact that I didn’t like the old design, there was another reason - I wanted to motivate myself to write a new note. And it seems to have even worked out since you are reading this. Will I add new content to my site or not? We’ll see…
